Change Car Insurance
When you want to change car insurance, there are a few rules you have to know in advance. Well, maybe not so much “rules,” but tips that can help you make the switch to a new auto insurance company that better suits your needs.
First think of why you want to change car insurance. Is it because you’re paying too high of a premium? Is it because your current company doesn’t offer the amount of support that you want to have? Depending on the reason why you want to change, it can affect the way you shop.
Unless you paid a year ahead of time, you can switch out your policy during any month of the year. If you’ve prepaid the company, you can check to see if they’ll allow you to get a partial refund based on the unused portion of your coverage.
Make sure you notify the insurance company in writing that you’re changing your car insurance to another company. Or, if you just want to change your existing policy’s coverage, but stick with the same company, you can phone in and make the change verbally – but make sure you have them send you a confirmation letter of the changes being made.
When you change car insurance, you may run into a situation where the company you’re with now charges you a cancellation fee. Not all carriers will do this, but it is legal and some of them take advantage of it.
